Bioavailability is the ability of a substance to enter the body’s circulation, and so to have an active effect where it is needed.
All Ateronon products have been designed by experts in the field to be highly bioavailable so that the important ingredients (the ‘good stuff’) can get into your body.
The bioavailability of the patented lycopene formulation – LactoLycopene – has proved valuable to independent research centres of excellence. Ateronon was chosen for clinical studies at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and at the prestigious Brigham and Women’s Institute, Boston, USA, where the study was conducted under the supervision of a Harvard University professor.
Both studies showed that a daily capsule of Ateronon increased levels of lycopene in the blood, with the Cambridge study showing a 50% increase.
Ateronon Heart has undergone a series of in-house and independent clinical studies. No other lycopene product has been subject to such in-depth research.
A report containing data on Ateronon was presented at the British Cardiovascular Society conference in June 2014.
A Cambridge University study published in the peer-reviewed science journal PLOSone showed that Ateronon increased arterial flexibility by 53%. The study can be downloaded in full here: http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0099070
An earlier study using Ateronon showed that taking Ateronon had a beneficial effect on cholesterol levels and oxidised LDL. This has since been reviewed by the TGA (Therapeutic Goods Adminstration) in Australia permitting the claim “reduces the oxidation of LDL cholesterol”.
A study in the American Academy of Neurology concluded that high serum concentrations of lycopene, as a marker of intake of tomatoes and tomato-based products, decrease the risk of any stroke and ischemic stroke in men. The study can be read here: http://n.neurology.org/content/79/15/1540
Ateronon XY has been designed to provide the benefits of bioavailable lycopene for men’s health. Numerous studies and media reports have highlighted the benefits lycopene can have on men’s health. A summary can be found on Boots Web MD website: http://search.webmd.boots.com/search/search_results/default.aspx?query=lycopene&sourceType=undefined
Lycopene is regarded as one of the most potent singlet oxygen quenchers in the carotenoid family because it is twice as effective as b-carotene and up to 10 times more effective than α-tocopherol lycopene.
Lycopene contains many electrons which can be donated to free radicals, resulting in their neutralization. In this way, lycopene acts as an antioxidant to trap free radicals and halt the propagative chain reactions, reducing the ROS burden and alleviating oxidative stress, thus preventing oxidative damage to lipids, proteins and DNA.
Lycopene most likely acts via the oxidative mechanism of action to prevent oxidative stress and its detrimental effects on male infertility. Testes contain relatively high lycopene concentrations compared to other parts of the body. This suggests that lycopene is likely to play a major physiological role as an antioxidant in the process of spermatogenesis.
